Accessibility

AskBioMap aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, so that everyone can explore how the body connects.

What is built in

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a skip link.
  • Pages use real headings, landmarks, labelled form fields and descriptive link text.
  • Text and controls are designed to meet WCAG AA contrast in both the dark and light themes.
  • Colour is never the only signal: evidence grades are also named, and lines are solid, dashed or dotted.
  • Animation stops when your device asks for reduced motion, or when you choose it in My BioMap.

The map

The network picture is visual by nature, so every topic and connection is also available as text: in the map's List view, on each topic's own page, and in the topic library. On the map itself, the arrow keys move between topics and a screen reader announces each one.

Your settings

AskBioMap opens in its light theme. The theme button at the top of every page switches between light and dark, and in My BioMap you can choose light, dark or your device's own setting, larger text, more contrast and reduced motion. AskBioMap also follows your device's motion setting, and pages can be zoomed to 200 per cent.
